“Korbel” is a variety of the commonly known, Coastal Redwood, and is a large and stately, evergreen tree. It is aptly named for its red coloured bark and wood. It features feathery foliage which is light green when young and ages to become dark green. The foliage is held on broad branches that emerge from a trunk that has bark which is distinctly soft to touch. It grows with a conical shape and will eventually reach 25 m tall and 8 m wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of coastal environments, exposed sites, dry periods, cool climates, frost, and most soil conditions, except extreme wet. “Korbel” is commonly grown as a specimen, planted to provide shelter and screening, used in avenue plantings, or included in a mixed planting in a large garden.
