Taxus baccata 'Overeynderi' Taxus baccata 'Overeynderi'

Taxaceae

Taxus baccata 'Overeynderi' Taxus baccata 'Overeynderi'

Good, wide upright growing cultivar with a regular ovoid crown, up to 3 to 4 m. This Taxus is very densely branched with brown twigs. Old bark is brown-red and flaking. At 2 cm long the needles are relatively short. They are about 0.2 cm wide and mid-green. Although ‘Overeynderi’ usually blossoms abundantly, the blossom is male so it does not produce any fruit. The tree bears some resemblance to ‘Major’ and ‘Pyramidalis’ but it has denser branching and a regular crown shape. Extremely suitable for parks and gardens and can also be used as a hedge. Created in 1923 as seedling of ‘Fastigiata’.
