Description
Sacred fir. A rare tree of small to medium size with down-sweeping stems.
Leaves 1.5-3.5cm long, peculiarly tapered and curved, dark green above, marked with 2 greyish stomatal bands beneath, densely arranged and forward-pointing on the upper sides of the branchlets, pectinate below.
Cones 10-15cm long, bluish when young; bracts exserted and reflexed. In Mexico the branches are used to decorate mission buildings during religious festivals.
Reasonably lime-tolerant, it grew at the SHHG for more the 50 years where the specimen reached 23.5m tall.
