Description

Juniperus chinensis procumbens nana (Common name Japanese garden juniper) is native to Japan and China and can reach a growth height of up to 70 centimetres there. The evergreen shrub belongs to the cypress family and grows slowly along the ground. Like many other Junipers, this species loves a fully sunny location and a slightly acidic, well-drained soil. The plant should be kept slightly moist without exposing the roots to waterlogging, especially in warmer regions. The subspecies Juniperus procumbens nana or Juniper chinensis var. Procumbens nana is a dwarf form of Juniperus procumbens and as such only reaches a height of about 30 centimetres. The plant is particularly popular among bonsai enthusiasts, as it can be used to create a wide variety of bonsai forms.
