Longtime men's basketball head coach talks hoops, family and Black History Month

NEW HAVEN, Conn – This Is Yale, the Official Podcast of Yale Athletics, is back to celebrate Black History Month and does so with Yale's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Men's Basketball Head Coach, James Jones. Host Mike Gambardella talks hoops and history with Jones as the Bulldogs look to defend their Ivy League title for a third consecutive season. 
 

Jones, the all-time winningest men's basketball coach at Yale and one of the most successful coaches in Ivy League history, was named Yale's head coach on April 27, 1999. He entered the 2021-22 season with 333 career victories, which is the second-most in league history, and his 180 Ivy wins are the third-most in league history. 

Jones is the longest-tenured coach in the league and has guided the Bulldogs to five Ivy League championships – 2002, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020 - three NCAA Tournament berths – 2016, 2019, 2020 - and six postseason appearances. 

Jones is also the 2019 recipient of the Ben Jobe Award as the top minority coach in Division I men's basketball.
