Summary[edit]

Description A U.S. Navy Grumman F-14A-110-GR Tomcat (BuNo 161164) of Fighter Squadron VF-84 "Jolly Rogers", foreground, and a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A-20-MC Hornet (BuNo 163107) of Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-87 "Golden Warrior" are prepared for launch from the waist catapults on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). Both squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8) aboard the Roosevelt for a deployment to the medterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean from 28 December 1990 to 28 June 1991. In May 1991, the Roosevelt was on station in the eastern Mediterranean to support "Operation Provide Comfort", a multinational effort to aid Kurdish refugees in southern Turkey and northern Iraq.
