BACK IN TIME

Christina Aguilera and Her Flippy Lob Literally Partied Like It's 1999

Seriously, what year is it?

Christina Aguilera rang in 2024 like it was 1999 all over again. The pop star kicked off her Las Vegas residency in a platinum blonde lob that looks extremely similar to the one she wore in her “Genie in a Bottle” days, and I'm sitting here wondering what year it actually is.

Aguilera returned to her short style for the first performances at the Venetian, hitting the stage in a shoulder length lob cut with flipped-out ends; as anyone who lived through the late '90s can tell you, those flippy ends were the peak of fashion circa 1999, and Aguilera herself was often spotted wearing a variation on the look throughout her first years of fame. The 2023 version of Xtina opted for a sleek style with subtle layers throughout, parted deeply to one side with flicked-out ends, while her 1999 cut had way more layers and volume at the crown.

Here's the current look, crafted by her stylist Igor Rosales-Jackson:

Platinum blonde color? Check. Cool-toned makeup? Yep. Shoulder-length bob with a flirty, flippy finish? You know it. Given that this is the same person we can't really say they're twinning, but it really does look like Aguilera traveled back in time.

Xtina changed costumes frequently throughout the show, but her hair and makeup stayed the same. She paired the lob with ultra-smoky glittery gray eyes with color all the way up to her brow, lined glossy lips and a gunmetal gray manicure, essentially turning up the volume on her signature glam a few levels for such a monumental occasion and performance. Whether or not the hairstyle ode to her younger self was intentional, it's a fun nod to the longevity of her career and how beauty trends may come and go, but a lob always hits.
