A lot of people tout the thickness of this pad, understandably. By reading the reviews here and on other websites, I came to the conclusion that the pad felt "squishy" in a sense. Not the case. This thing is a brick. Which is awesome. Just don't swing it at anyone full force, or you will hurt them.
As with everyone else, mine shipped rolled. It leveled out within a couple hours. Yes, it smelled like toxic tennis balls. Not a big deal to me.
Regarding the surface, it feels like any other top-end cloth pad which is brand new: really nice. A little different, perhaps, than thinner cloth pads, in that movement feels weightier, but not slower. My standard pad has been a Steelseries SX for the past year. I like hard pads, mostly because I don't suffer the adrenaline jitters a lot of people do. But the Heavy and I are now going steady. It trades the precise super slippery feel of a high quality hard pad for precise control, but I've had no problems with twitch. Very steady, consistent glide.
It is large. Not huge, just large. If you play at the wrist, leave this one alone. If you, like me, have augmented your desk chair with a saw by cutting off the arm rest in order to give your arm and elbow full movement capability, then you should buy this pad because if you listen closely enough it's softly calling your name (hear it?).
I'm giving the Heavy an enthusiastic review not because I am completely satisfied with it, but because I could find no faults in it. It's a sturdy, slick, classy-looking piece of art. Or a home defense device.
