HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in March 1979. There is also an inscription to the case back in (possibly) Japanese, that we are unable to translate.
CONDITION
The King Seiko range were one down from the Grand Seiko, and in 1979 both of these were exclusively for high end quartz movements. The King Seiko were far from cheap, and this one retailed at ¥68,000, when an Automatic Seiko Bell-Matic could be bought for ¥21,000. Finding the original catalogue for this watch we can see it was never supplied with a bracelet, but instead with a leather strap. Amazingly this watch had kept the signed buckle, but that created a problem – the 19mm lugs and the 15mm buckle meant we had to have a new strap custom made for this watch. It was a good investment, and should last many years. We will also fit a new battery to the watch before sending it out. All functions, including the quick set day and date are functioning perfectly. The day can be in English or Kanji. The case is unpolished and crisp, with the worst mark being between the top lugs where a previous strap appears to have rubbed it. The dial and the glass are both excellent. A very nice example of a King Quartz.
