More information:

Huon pine (Lagarostrobos franklinii), Very slow growing; long-lived trees believed to be 10 000 years old; contains a preserving oil (dacrydiol) that makes the timber resist rot so that logs buried for hundreds of years still contain usable timber of high quality, excellent for boat building, furniture and craft work. Its oil used to be extracted, considered an ‘essential oil’; it was used as an insecticide and to make Vanillin. Upper reaches of the Franklin River, southwestern Tasmania, Australia
